Website Designer
We’re looking for an experienced website designer to work alongside our team on custom WordPress projects. You’ll step into our strategy-led process, collaborate closely with our team, and lead thoughtful, custom website design from early direction through developer handoff.
About Us
Made to Thrive is a small, senior, all-female web agency that builds custom WordPress sites for established creators, food and recipe brands, and service-based businesses. We make sites that feel beautiful, editorial, and distinctly feminine, while still doing the serious work of supporting growth, revenue, and a great user experience. Strategy comes first, so we make sure we understand the business, audience, and goals before we start designing. We keep our client list intentionally small so every project gets thoughtful, hands-on attention from a team that genuinely enjoys working together.
The Role
We’re looking for a website designer to partner with us on a contract, per-project basis. You’ll collaborate with our team on strategy, user flows, and sitemaps, and from there you’ll take full ownership of the complete site design in Figma, every page and template, presented to clients and handed off to our development team for custom WordPress builds.
You’ll work closely with our entire team and should value great creative work and great communication. Most projects run 8-10 weeks of design work, and we aim for a steady pipeline with a goal of a long-term design partnership.
What you’ll Do
- Lead design discovery: translate client strategy, brand, and audience research into creative direction and revenue building flows
- Design full custom websites in Figma (home, templates, key page types, mobile) – no page builders, and fully custom built design elements
- Present and iterate on design with clients, incorporating feedback with judgment and grace
- Prepare clean, organized Figma files for developer handoff (design systems, components, states, accessibility and responsive specs)
- Occasional brand-adjacent work: moodboards, style tiles, favicon/social asset direction
What we’re Looking For
- A portfolio of original, custom website designs with strong creative point of view, emotional impact, and memorable brand expression.
- Strong typography, layout, and visual hierarchy, with obsessive attention to detail.
- A strong understanding of how people move through a website, with user experience and conversion considered throughout the design.
- The ability to work efficiently and adapt when a project calls for a tighter timeline.
- Fluency in Figma as a web design tool, including responsive design, grids, spacing systems, breakpoints, auto-layout, variables, components, variants, and interactive states. You’re comfortable designing complete website systems across desktop and mobile, including reusable sections, templates, content variations, navigation, forms, and other common web patterns.
- Strong web UX instincts and an understanding of how to design for real users, real content, and real development constraints, with thoughtful consideration for hierarchy, navigation, interactions, responsive behavior, accessibility, and conversion.
- Experience incorporating accessibility fundamentals into your design work, including contrast, hierarchy, semantic structure, and interactive states.
- Clean, developer-ready Figma files with clear components, styles, states, responsive behavior, and annotations or specs where needed.
- Comfort designing for WordPress and content-heavy websites, including Gutenberg-based builds. Direct WordPress design experience is a big plus.
- Strong written communication and async collaboration skills.
- A reliable, proactive working style: you communicate clearly, keep projects moving, and flag issues early when something changes.
- Confidence managing multiple projects and priorities.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for content publishers, food bloggers, or editorial brands
- Logo/branding experience
- You’re a foodie or know your way around a good influencer rec, and instinctively get the creative world our clients live in.
The Details
- Contract role, per-project pricing
- Fully remote with a flexible schedule. Be available for scheduled meetings, otherwise work when it suits you. Overlap with North American working hours preferred.
- Portfolio required: send 3-4 projects you designed end-to-end, with a sentence on your specific role in each. Please share live sites or full-page designs. If we reach out, we’ll also ask to see some of your design files – we love a messy sandbox and the iterations behind a final design.
In a Nutshell
You’re talented, reliable, and good vibes to work with. You care about doing beautiful, thoughtful work, communicate well, you take deadlines seriously and are comfortable managing your own time while keeping projects moving. In return, you’ll have a fully flexible, always-remote working environment with lots of trust and autonomy. We don’t manage anyone minute by minute, and we rely on each other to stay communicative, follow through, and flag things early when plans shift. If that sounds like your kind of working relationship, we’d love to see your portfolio.
And if you don’t check every box but still think you’d be a great fit, we’d love to hear from you. We care more about finding the right person to grow with than someone who looks perfect on paper.
Are you a great fit?
